BRET BERO is an educator, business leader, husband and father.

After a long and successful career in the business world, he joined the faculty of Babson College in order to share his experience with the next generation of entrepreneurs and business leaders. Now, with our Commonwealth and country facing an uncertain future, Bret hopes to apply his lifetime of experience and education to public service. He is inspired to run for Lieutenant Governor because he believes Massachusetts is at an inflection point–and that the decisions we make about our economic recovery plans will affect the character of the Commonwealth for the next decade. He is an economic optimist and will be the small business champion.

Bret began his career at Digital Equipment Corporation, in Maynard, after graduating from Middlebury College; an opportunity that gave him a front row seat to the “Massachusetts Miracle ” of the 1980s. After earning a Master’s Degree in Business Administration at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College, Bret embarked on a thirty year career working with companies to help them improve, with roles  as both a management consultant and business turnaround leader. He has experience across a variety of industries, including many that are critical to  Massachusetts’ economic prosperity: health care, hospitality, technology, retail, building supplies, environmental services, finance, manufacturing, and media.

Throughout it all, Bret’s passion has been small businesses. Understanding that it is our small businesses that drive our economy, he bought a small, deep-draw metal forming company in Orange, MA in 1997 and rechristened it ECHO Industries. He owned ECHO until its sale in 2019.

Bret currently teaches Strategic Problem Solving, Management Consulting, and Leading Business Turnarounds at Babson College. He previously served on the Carlisle town finance committee, the town revenue enhancement committee and volunteered as a youth lacrosse and hockey coach. Bret and his wife Joan, an Occupational Therapist in the Weston public schools, met at Concord-Carlisle High School and have two adult children and two grandchildren, who they adore. After having lived in the Metro West area for over 20 years, they moved into Boston in 2014. From the Berkshires to the Cape, and with many towns in between, Bret has lived and worked in this state for the majority of his life. He looks forward to serving his citizens of the Commonwealth.
